The Town of Ajax is giving credit to people who make the town a great place to live.
Ajax awarded over a dozen people at the annual Ajax Volunteer Recognition Award ceremony.
"Volunteers are the foundation of community development and community engagement, they're the people that make the town what it is," said Andrew Norris, who is the Community Development Co-ordinator.
Former councillor and long-time community volunteer Pat Clark won the adult civic award She first came to Ajax in the 1970s and got involved in fighting to prevent a toxic waste plant from being built in the community.
"In the end, we were successful and the plant wasn't built," she said.
Ms. Clark also fought the creation of a Pickering landfill and served as local Ajax councillor in the early 80s and as a Regional councillor in the late 80s.
